The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) is bracing itself for a significant increase in its mediation workload, anticipating a seven-fold rise in the number of cases requiring compulsory mediation for claims under£10,000. Mediation has emerged as a crucial alternative dispute resolution mechanism, providing parties with a more cost-effective and efficient way to resolve conflicts outside of traditional court proceedings.
Claims under £10,000 would be referred for one hour of free telephone-based mediation with the HMCTS’s small claims mediation service.
